Dina Wakley will be here Thursday, February 6th through Saturday, February 8th teaching {5} Amazing Classes! {1} Art Journal Play Series: "Delightful Painted Deli Paper" Thursday, February 6th 6-9pm $60 My "Art Journal Play" classes are all about exploring and playing with art journaling techniques. The goal is to learn techniques, experiment, play, and make finished journal pages. We’ll be working in journals, but the techniques apply to all mixed-media projects (canvases, book-making, etc.). Join me as we create random painted deli papers. We’ll paint, scrape, rub, stencil, and stamp. Then I’ll show you my favorite ways to use the deli papers in your journaling and mixed-media projects. Please bring: Basic tool kit: Ranger craft sheet, paint brushes, rag/cloth, pencil, scissors, water container to clean your brushes, palette knife, baby wipes, paper towels, old gift card to use as a scraper, water container to clean your brushes in, paper plate or palette paper to use as a palette (or you can just use your craft sheet). White acrylic gesso Gel medium (I prefer soft gel matte) or a glue stick (I like the Ranger glue stick) Acrylic paint. Bring your favorite colors. Plastic palette knife Paintbrushes Your art journal (I recommend the Dylusions journal by Ranger) {2} Introduction to Art Journaling Friday, February 7th 1-4pm $60 Have you been curious about art journaling, but are not sure where to start? Come and play with me! We’ll explore what art journaling is and I will teach you a few techniques for creating fun and expressive pages. We’ll create backgrounds, image layers, and top texture. We’ll make several pages and you’ll get a feel for playing, experimenting, and being free with your art. I’ll also give you some tips for page topics and writing on your pages. No previous art experience is required. Supplies You Need: Basic tool kit: Ranger craft sheet, paint brushes, rag/cloth, pencil, scissors, water container to clean your brushes, palette knife, baby wipes, paper towels, old gift card to use as a scraper, water container to clean your brushes in, paper plate or palette paper to use as a palette (or you can just use your craft sheet). White acrylic gesso. Acrylic paints in an assortment of colors (I prefer artist-quality paint, but bring what you’ve got). Paintbrushes-one or two should be fine...I prefer a large flat brush, about ¾". Foam brushes will get you by but are not ideal. I like the Claudine Hellmuth brush assortment by Ranger. They are inexpensive and good quality. Pen for writing...(such as an ultra-fine or extra-fine point Sharpie works well, Faber-Castell Pitt pen, or Sharpie Water-based Poster-paint marker in Extra-fine point) Optional: a journal to work in. We will be working in class on watercolor paper, but if you’d also like to work in a journal, feel free. Choose a journal with heavy pages-preferably watercolor paper. Optional: any papers or scraps or pictures that inspire you. I’ll be giving you an assortment of ephemera, but if you have something you love, feel free to bring it. Black ink pad (I like Ranger’s Archival black pad). I will have some for class use, too. Any rubber stamps that appeal to you. I will have many for class use. {3} Art Journal Play Series: Marvelous Mark Making Friday, February 7th 6-9pm $60 My "Art Journal Play" classes are all about exploring and playing with art journaling techniques. The goal is to learn techniques, experiment, play, and make finished journal pages. We’ll be working in journals, but the techniques apply to all mixed-media projects (canvases, book-making, etc.). Mark-making is one of my obsessions! Join me for some mark-making play time. We’ll start pages with marks made from all kinds of materials and media. We’ll use string, sticks, cards, paint lids, and just play and see what happens. Then we’ll "read" our marks and listen to what they’re saying. We’ll turn the marks into layers, and then the layers into finished journal pages. You’ll be surprised how this class will help you grow and stretch as an artist! Your art journal (I recommend the Dylusions journal by Ranger) Gesso Acrylic paints Pen(s) for journaling onto your pages Optional: your own ink spray and stencils. I will have plenty for class use, but if you have your own, you won’t have to share. Optional: rubber stamps & black Archival ink pad. {4} Art Journal Play Series: Collagraph Printing Saturday, February 8th 9:30am-12:30pm $60 My "Art Journal Play" classes are all about exploring and playing with art journaling techniques. The goal is to learn techniques, experiment, play, and make finished journal pages. We’ll be working in journals, but the techniques apply to all mixed-media projects (canvases, book-making, etc.). Are you addicted to gelli printing? Come and try your hand at a different kind of printing...collagraph printing. We’ll make printing plates (known as collagraph plates) with supplies you already have in your studio, and then we’ll pull amazing and interesting prints from the plates. Then I’ll show you three of my favorite ways to incorporate those prints onto a journal page or a mixed-media project. This class is fun and different and will get your creative juices flowing! Your art journal (I recommend the Dylusions journal by Ranger) White acrylic gesso Gel medium (I prefer soft gel matte) or a glue stick (I like the Ranger glue stick) Acrylic paint. Bring your favorite colors, and please include white, a dark neutral, and a red/pink and a yellow. Plastic palette knife Paintbrushes Rubber brayer Optional: paper punches. I’ll have a few to share but it’s nice to have a few more shapes available. {5} Art Journal Play Series:...
